FAQ

The Game Funding Scheme is NIMBI's pool for the development, production and launch of Danish digital games.
We have three application rounds in 2026 all listed above.

Purpose of the scheme

The purpose of the scheme is to provide funding for the development, production, and launch of Danish digital games that help promote Danish digital games as a cultural medium and strengthen the cultural qualities of Danish games for play and learning.

Which activities are eligible for funding?

The pool can award grants for digital games and is not limited to specific target groups, genres or platforms. In this context, a game will contain gameplay or an interactive audiovisual universe, and together they must represent an artistic, narrative and/or educational ambition.

Development grants of up to DKK 100,000
In this case funding can be awarded for activities aimed at exploring and demonstrating a defined game concept. This will often include support for work on a technical test or prototype.

Development grants of over DKK 100,000
In this case, funding can be awarded for activities aimed at developing a demo. A demo is understood as a fully playable section of the game, representing the expected final quality and technical solution (sometimes referred to as a vertical slice). To be eligible for funding, a technical test or prototype demonstrating a significant aspect of the game must already have been developed.

Production grants
Grants can be awarded for activities leading to the completion and release of a game. A demo must already have been developed, and the game must be released in a Danish language version.

Launch grants
You can only apply for a launch grant for a game that has previously received a production grant from the Game Scheme. The launch must include activities targeted at a Danish audience.

Who can apply?

The applicant must be affiliated with a company that develops, produces, and launches Danish digital games and that is based in Denmark, an EU or EEA Member State, or Switzerland. Applicants must also demonstrate that they have the necessary production-technical and creative skills to complete the requested phase of the project. They must provide evidence that the game can be completed and is likely to reach an audience that is reasonable in relation to the expected production costs.

How does the application process work?

Projects can apply for development and production grants during the specified application deadlines published on this page. Applications are then evaluated by an editorial panel consisting of two external members — currently Annemette Kiil Mørup and Regina Dubiel — and the head of the Game Funding Scheme, Simon Løvind. Applications are assessed based on a set of funding criteria: cultural value, originality, implementation, and responsibility. For a detailed description, see the document “Assessment Criteria” (in Danish).

NIMBI aims to respond to applications within four weeks. Applicants may be invited to a project interview to provide further details on their application. Afterwards, the editorial panel may recommend to NIMBI’s management that funding be granted for the project. The management then makes the formal decision regarding the grant.

We accept applications for launch grants on an ongoing basis, but only for game projects that have already received a production grant.
